Have a question for you guys

Why is it that my father's 81 Z28's doors sound solid almost like a new cars doors when you slam it shut

and my 85's doors sound hollow and cheap and shit rattling everywhere

do all third gen doors sound like this?

if not what can i do to fix this issue?

thanks

Here a good thread on TGO regarding door rattles:

Also, open your doors half-way and then lift up at the end and see if there is any play......which there likely will be if the hinges are original. Replacing those with the good aftermarket kits breathes new life into the doors and did a lot for quieting down noises in our 85.

My doors have lots of Dynamat installed and close SOLID. :D

There are a few good threads on TGO, I know who has pics of the pw motor being secured with zip ties (about 6) to keep it from rattling.

Definitely check out those threads on TGO. I think it was 88 that some changes were made and the plastic bracket that holds the rods was changed to hold both instead of just one. I went to the wreckers years ago and grabbed a set of those. I also used some foam tape behind the metal brack for the armrest and some teflon tape on the ends of the lock rods where they go into the locks and handles to make them fit tight (that made a big difference).
