Re: Project - New/Old School
oh oh oh....i know i know.... ya im not tellin either
that new 9 inch looks like a monster beside the 12 bolt. almost makes the 12 bolt look like a wee 7.5. thats pretty good that something that strong can be lighter in the end.

Re: Project - New/Old School
Finally have the diff fully installed, new brake lines, cleaned up wiring, new speed bleeders and painted up the sway bar and hardware. Almost looks like new. I really need to get the underside cleaner. The process saved a total of 47.5 pounds from my previous set up, while being stronger and preserving the suspension geometry that I had before (which I really liked). All my pics of the my MWC 9" are here. https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=6fae0ec71cef8d21&sc=photos#cid=6FAE0EC71CEF8D21&id=6FAE0EC71CEF8D21%212846&sc=photosPick up the new 2" header and drive shaft tomorrow in Niagara Falls. Back to work on the engine bay. God I hate painting.

Cleaner? you can almost eat off it now You could turn yours over and it would show better than mine right side up

Re: Project - New/Old School
More shining parts picked up today. New drive shaft with a billet yoke. 12.5lbs vs 18.5lbs of the reliable steel/spicer set up. Hoping it preserves a little of the fwhp and maybe a little softer hit off the line. A little extra breathing. New 2" Kooks headers to replace the 1 7/8". Also the new ones have a merge collector. Hopefully good for a few more hp. Also need to do a littlle modifications to the new true duals as they have 3" inlets and the new headers have a 3 1/2" collector. So picked up some 3 1/2" tri clamps and will cut the front of the cats off to weld on the 1/2 clamp with the other half welded to the back of the collector. Going to be a little trickiy geting it all to fit. Now to take a crack at the 5th time painting under the hood. F'n paint!

Re: Project - New/Old School
Knocking off a little more weight, and glad to see it is off rotating mass. Just got a ne McLoed aluminum fly wheel. I will keep the dump truck like steel one as a back up spare. Steel after 4 rebuilds is 24.5lbs, the new one 12 lbs. Should make the throttle response a little happier too. So far that is 18.5lbs of rotating mass and 47.5lbs off the rear diff and suspension. Hoping this also gives a softer hit out of the hole so the drag radials get to hook up better before the motor gets to full boil.

Re: Project - New/Old School
I think I will go with new brakes this year too. I will likely have a set of very low use Baer Eradi Speed front rotors for sale. In fact I have 2 sets. These are the big buck 2pc rotors. http://www.autoanything.com/brakes/61A3943A0A0A2595275.aspxIf anyone is interested let me know. They will be a very reasonable price as usual. I am going to put a Wilwood set up on the car, but these are the smaller ones that fit 17" rims. Strangely these are the Race rated ones too. The bigger and cheaper ones are more for show. http://www.wilwood.com/BrakeKits/BrakeKitsProdFront.aspx?ite mno=140-7190&year=1999&make=Pontiac&model=Firebi rd&option=I keep upping the hp but not the stopping power. Also thinking of going to an adjustable rear sway bar, so if anyone wants a Strano rear sway bar let me know.

Re: Project - New/Old School
A little update, finally moving forward again. Struggled this winter with painting the inner fenders. This was the typical result. Finally got a proffesional to do it. It looks so much better than the factory flat uncleared white. Had the headers and any of the cat back that could be electro polished done. Turned out really nice, not sure hwo long it will last though. Had to get my emissions tubes weled on, 2" where not available that way. New adjustable rear sway bar is installed too. Should be no excuse for getting the motor resting between the fenders now. more updates to come.

lb9 GTA wrote: that exhaust looks amazing I thought it was $50 well spent. Not sure how it will hold up though. Likley be brown in a month or less. It is typically a $150 minimum, but I piggy backed on a customers food automation order he was getting polished. He make food aution equipment and they often use this method of polishing as it is economical. It looks like the motor maybe resting in there tomorrow.
