Starting problems with a 1999 Firebird V6
Posting this for my brother who's been having some issues with the firebird.
------------
Alright so here's what happens.
Engine will spin and spin but fails to actually catch and start up. Doesn't happen always, it can work for weeks and then out of the blue won't start anymore. It "usually" will start with a jump from another car, but today it didn't help. Sometimes it will start on its own if I give it enough time, or "rock" it indicating something pinched or loose maybe? Example, rolled it out of the driveway onto the street, popped hood to boost it, and it started on its own. No check engine lights, everything appears fine. When running it seems to run fine. Doesn't die or run struggle to run. No lights or anything is left on draining power. And no aftermarket stereo equipment installed, all stock.
One friend mentioned my one popup light which has a broken actuator could be draining the battery, although that seems unlikely. Another said it sounds like my spark plugs might be going which could give it problems catching but still let turn.
Repair wise, I put in a brand new alternator and battery in 2007. In 2008 I put in a rebuilt air pump and new fuel injector. This was believed to be the solution to this problem. In 2009 I got a new fuel pump, also believed to solve this problem.
HELP ME!!!

You need to figure out what is missing when it won't start. It only takes three things to make a motor run fuel, spark, compression. If you aren't getting any codes then the pcm isn't seeing any missing inputs. Can you hear the fuel pump come on and prime when you turn the key on?

Any corrosion on the battery terminals?
Clean the key with some electronic parts cleaner, could be the VATS pellet.

The 97-99 3.8's were notorious for going through ignition related parts. Check for burned wires, melted coil packs and ignition modules and plugs.
Search this website for all the info you need. http://forum.camarov6.com/index.php
They redesigned some parts after 2000 and the problems dropped.
